I Heartbeat Dance
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Shanketta Newsom is a native of Sardis, MS who has always had a love and passion for dance and all things art. She is a multi-talented artist: dancer, choreographer, singer, rapper, song writer, performance poet, teaching artist, and actress. Her leadership and love for dance started in high school where she was captain of North Panola's dance team, the N.P. Jewels. During this same time she danced for a traveling state performance troupe called R.A.T. Pack Performance Troupe. During her matriculation at Jackson State University, she became captain of the prestigious dance team the Prancing J-Settes. This afforded her the opportunity to perform at Battle of the Bands, NFL games, and host dance camps that encouraged, motivated, and inspired young girls to dream and be great despite the hardships they were born into. In 2014 she was chosen to be an ongoing instructor for HBCU Dance, Inc. dance camp in Atlanta, GA. She doesn't look at dance as a business or hobby, it's her ministry. Dance saved her life and provided her with the tenacity, leadership, and confidence that she has today. Her vision is for every girl or woman who walks through her studio doors or that she works with to never leave the same. She desires that everyone leaves feeling inspired, encouraged, and confident and believe they are loved, valued, beautiful, and bold!
